Oliver Foster is a very experienced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. He has worked in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health for over 25 years in a variety of different therapeutic settings. He is a Consultant Psychotherapist in the CAMHS service based in Exeter. Alongside his NHS work, Oliver has a private practice in Taunton and Exeter.

As a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, Oliver is trained to work with children and young people up to the age of 25 years. He offers therapeutic help for a wide range of difficulties that include anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, problems with relationships, attachment difficulties and developmental trauma, self-harm and experiences of abuse. Oliver offers both short-term and longer-term help. In addition to individual psychotherapy with children and adolescents, Oliver works with parents and carers. He is also highly experienced in dyadic psychotherapy with infants and young children.

Fundamental to psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children is working with play and non-vernal communication. Although the importance of ‘talking’ will typically be greater with older children and adolescents, a creative approach to enabling communication and understanding remains a key aspect of the therapeutic work. The psychotherapy is essentially an ‘attachment-based’ approach.

Oliver has taught on many therapeutic trainings and academic courses in the UK and abroad. He has been involved in the training of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists for many years. Oliver offers supervision and consultations to individual professionals and organisations working with children and families.
