Dr Laura Smart

Laura is an experienced Clinical Psychologist and accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner. She qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2010 and has twenty years of experience working in NHS mental health services with both working-age adults and people over 65. Having used a variety of therapy approaches as a Clinical Psychologist, Laura’s work now mainly draws on the relational approach and tools of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).

This means she is skilled in paying attention to the relationship between client and therapist as a key factor in enabling people to change. Laura works collaboratively with clients to map out present patterns of relating to themselves and others and to understand how these things might be linked to past experiences to help them find the resources they need to grow, flourish and enrich their lives and relationships.
As well as being flexible to draw on different approaches as a Clinical Psychologist, Laura brings compassion, warmth and clarity to her work with clients.
Laura offers therapy to clients with a range of problems and symptoms including difficulties in relationships that may be rooted in childhood experiences, trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, self-harm, eating disorders, addictions, physical symptoms.
