Dr Helen Bellfield is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist who worked for the NHS for 27 years.  She has worked with a diverse range of people experiencing complex psychological difficulties and mental health problems in a wide range of settings (including Adult Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Forensic and Older Adult services).  Prior to working as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice she gained over 20 years working in in the specialist field of addiction and has most recently provided Clinical Leadership for specialist independent day schools providing education and therapeutic interventions for children who have developmental trauma.  

Dr Bellfield works with young people and adults and has supported many individuals and their families in making positive change.  She is able to assist people in gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence to make changes to the symptom of addiction and work with them to address the underlying difficulties that created the context for the problem to occur, so that lasting change can be achieved.

Dr Bellfield is warm and empathic, during the initial psychological assessment she will work with you to ensure there is a shared understanding of current difficulties and clearly identified goals for an individually tailored treatment plan. Dr Bellfield uses a broad range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to inform the intervention plan, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, systemic therapy and solution-focused therapies. She has been a practitioner of yoga for over 20 years and a teacher of this since 2004, she also holds a certificate in Clinical Hypnosis.

Dr Bellfield provides both direct clinical work with individuals, groups and families and consultation, training and supervision to staff groups.  She offers clinical supervision for other therapists and psychologists.  She currently sits as member of the Board of Trustees for ARA (Addiction Recovery Agency) and provides Expert Opinion to the courts in family law cases.
