Therapeutic Approach
Fi is an experienced CAT Psychotherapist and supervisor She enjoys working alongside individuals using the CAT model to help make sense of what is happening and to find ways forward. This often involves looking at early experiences and /or relationships and thinking together about how they may impact on current difficulties. She aims to provide a compassionate, non-judgemental space in which explore issues that may come to the fore and to consider different ways of managing troubling emotional experiences and/or difficulties within relationships. She has a pragmatic down-to-earth approach to therapy and is happy to share the theory and practice of different models of therapy including Internal family systems, Compassionate Mind Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. This enables her to tailor therapy to the client’s individual needs and preferential way of working.
Specialisms
- Anxiety, depression, OCD and other mental health presentations
- Complex trauma and dissociative processes
- Application of evidence-based therapy models recognised by NICE guidelines
- Supervision for trainees and qualified therapists.
Experience
Fi has many years’ experience working across multiple adult mental health settings within the NHS, both as a therapist and as a supervisor. She initially trained as an Occupational Therapist and has worked as a Psychological Therapist and Psychotherapist since 2006. Fi has worked with people struggling with a wide range of difficulties, including those suffering from anxiety and depression and those with challenges arising from relational difficulties, childhood adversity, abuse and trauma and longstanding emotional distress. Her training both as an Occupational Therapist and as a Psychotherapist has helped her understand the impact of emotional difficulties on the practicalities of everyday life.
What to Expect
Sessions begin with an assessment to gain an understanding of problems and to think together about what needs to feel different moving forward. It will also be important to establish whether you feel comfortable talking with me and to see if I feel I have the right skills and approach that could help you. The idea of therapy can feel challenging for many individuals, therefore it will be a chance for you to ask any questions and address any concerns you might have about attending sessions.
Further sessions are typically offered weekly and last 50-60 mins. During the first number of sessions, we will work towards developing an understanding of what might underly and maintain emotional and relational difficulties. It will be important for you to feel that you have been heard and your needs have been correctly identified, so that we can jointly define aims for therapy as we move forward. We will review our sessions regularly to ensure that you feel that the therapy is progressing in the way you hoped it might.
