Therapeutic Approach
Dr Mbanu is an accredited Clinical Psychologist with experience in the NHS, non-profit, and private sectors. She aims to create a validating, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where clients can begin their process of self-discovery and personal growth. She has often found that understanding people’s diagnoses and symptoms as responses to what they have lived through is valuable in helping them shed the self-blame they may carry.
Using a range of evidence-based psychological models such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dr Mbanu supports clients to reconnect with their sense of safety, resilience, and self-worth. She helps clients develop tools to understand their experiences, manage difficult emotions, and navigate life’s challenges. Dr Mbanu works collaboratively with clients to explore the origins and functions of behaviours that might be keeping them stuck and to identify more helpful ways to relate to themselves and others.
Her practice is affirming and inclusive, celebrating all identities and expressions. She encourages clients to bring all parts of themselves to their work together.

What to Expect
Dr Mbanu offers you the opportunity to ask questions and explore briefly how you might work together to achieve your therapy goals before embarking on an assessment appointment. Sessions last an hour and take place either weekly or biweekly. Each session is tailored to your needs and guided by your goals, feedback, and personal circumstances. Dr Mbanu often reminds her clients that it’s completely normal to feel uncertain when starting out, building comfort and trust takes time, and sessions will move at their own pace.
