Margaret has 20 years experience working as a person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist. She has set up a counselling service and provided counselling for children in three primary schools, been employed as a counsellor and CBT therapist for adults in the NHS for over 18 years, and worked in private practice as a psychotherapist for individuals, couples and as supervisor for therapists and counsellors.

Following her initial counsellor training, Margaret had the opportunity to deepen her learning and understanding of this when studying for her MSc in Person-Centred Psychotherapy and devoted her dissertation to ‘The Quality of Presence within the Therapeutic Relationship’. In her view this ability to be present rests on her commitment to being empathic, accepting and genuine.

Margaret is an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and offers CBT for patients suffering from anxiety and depression. She has a particular interest in working with people who have experienced trauma. When working in this modality she brings the core values of her person-centred psychotherapy to the work.

Margaret has successfully completed her training as a Mindfulness Teacher through the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, University of Bangor and offers both Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to groups both privately and within the NHS.

She is committed to ethical practice and values the process of continually developing her skills, knowledge and competence in all areas of her work.

Margaret adheres to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions; UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice and the BABCP Standards of  Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

She complies fully with the Good Practice Guidelines for Teaching Mindfulness-Based courses, created by the UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations, which governs mindfulness-based teaching practice in the UK.
